All you need to wash your baby's face is warm water and a soft washcloth or a couple of clean cotton balls. This is the gentlest and most effective way to clean your baby's face. Wipe your baby’s eyes from the inside corner to the outside corner. Using a warm wet washcloth, wash the rest of your baby’s face and then wipe your baby’s ears and clean the outer areas of the ears. In particular, make sure you get in between the fat folds in baby's neck as milk residue can often be found hiding here. Remember to be gentle and avoid using soap unless your doctor has recommended it.
Can you wipe your baby's face with a disposable wipe?
It is best not to use basic disposable wipes on a newborn’s face. Although it's convenient and seems harmless to do, these basic wipes can be harmful to your baby’s skin as they commonly contain a chemical called methylisothiazolinone. This ingredient can contribute to allergic reactions and rashes especially with babies with sensitive skin.
